The late Master Jack McGeorge stated that "the authority of the Master is established by initial agreement, but that authority must be continuously earned through subsequent actions.  A Master should strive to be worthy of excellent slaves through their consistent behavior."  I cannot think of a better way to phrase this M/s dynamic, only to add... and having a clear doctrine of their Mastery.

A slave is responsible for two major decisions.  First, "Am I a slave?" and second, "Do I wish to dedicate my life of personal service to this Master?"  In consensual slavery, the slave must learn to surrender control to the Master.  It is about trusting someone else to manage your life and to accept what you have and what you are given without concern about what you "want".

Everyone involved in the relationship must get their "needs" met in order for the relationship to be successful.  The Master must accept control and the full responsibility for the life of the slave.  The slave gives total control to the Master, fully accepting the care and following the direction given to them.  These are very intricate and structured relationships that ultimately meet the dominant and submissive "needs" of both parties.

Couple that with the Leather Lifestyle which I define as:

 "The pursuit of a kinky journey while following  a code of honor, integrity and a set of  protocols that drive self discipline and respectful behavior. Leather folk respect and pay homage to their history and those who walked this path before them.  They take seriously the responsibility to teach those who join this lifestyle.  They are ever diligent in plotting a proper course for a healthy future."

I am very much a Leather Man, and a Leather Master.  I am pansexual and I live my life with focused set of values and ethics.  That is also how I manage my Master/slave and Dominant/submissive relationships.  While all of this sounds very serious, I also enjoy a big belly laugh, being a bit of a "dawg" and having fun!  After all, it is the fun that attracted me to the Leather/BDSM/Fetish lifestyle. 

While I am knowledgeable of  many aspects of the "gay leather" history and traditions, I do not try to live as such.  It is my belief that the pansexual leather community must be respectful in honoring the path of the gay leather men and women from our past.  However, we must define our own leather culture and walk our own path, as our trials, challenges and culture are much different from those in the GBLT community.  There is no one true way to "be" leather.  It is fluid.  It is a mind set.  It comes from the heart of the individual.
